Assistant Plant Manager

Summary
This is a hands-on position that involves working with the Plant Manager, Quality Control Department, and other Internal partners to meet quality and production goals for Architectural/Structural precast/prestressed product in an efficient and professional manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for planning, scheduling, overseeing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and completing assigned precast production projects primarily architectural within the allotted time frame, at or under the predetermined budget.
2. Oversee day to day production activities of carpenter shop. Coordinate the activities of ATMI’s carpenter shop operations – wood cutting, assembly operations and housekeeping to ensure all form materials needed for completion of setup (architectural and structural precast) and pour processes are available and delivered in a timely manner.
3. Focused on developing and implementing strict quality standards required of architectural precast concrete including form set up. Ensure quality of product by overseeing physical testing and by visual inspection. Produce & promote quality at the source following strict architectural precast quality standards in keeping with the quality standards of the company, PCI and with the requirements of the individual project.
4. Report poor quality workmanship and/or end-product to Plant Manager; stop production if necessary.
5. Review production practices to determine causes of nonconformity with product specification and recommend solutions to ensure root cause is eliminated to prevent recurrence. Strive for zero quality non-conformances.
6. Assist Sales Team by actively participating in the bid review process of Architectural Precast product and offer objective assessments for the manpower requirements and production rates which can be achieved. Provide material take – offs, form optimization ideas and input for scheduling for future Architectural Precast projects. Provide AutoCAD details and drawings as needed for planning and production.
7. Assist Plant Manager with development and implementation of production improvements and optimization of processes.
8. Oversees maintenance of assigned equipment including managing downtime. Identify areas and recommend solutions to prevent operational delays and cut cost in overtime hours, labor, overhead and materials
9. Support company-wide efforts (tool box talks, weekly safety audits etc.) to remain compliant with local, regional, and national requirements of OSHA.
10. Participate on plant leadership team

Authority and Reporting Relationships:
1. The Assistant Plant Manger reports to the Plant Manager.
2. The Assistant Plant Manager receives sufficient authority from and is accountable to the Plant Manager / Vice President for the successful completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
3. The Assistant Plant Manager has the authority to direct the delivery schedule of materials to be used in ongoing and upcoming projects. The Assistant Plant Manager has the authority to purchase plant supplies and tools within the limitations granted by the Plant Manager / Vice President.
4. Ensure adequate staffing levels are met and maintained in correspondence with fluctuating production needs and schedules. Conduct routine performance evaluations and address any performance and/or other employment related issues. The Plant Manager may recommend an employee for promotion/termination however this requires the approval of the Plant Manager.
5. To provide training, guidance, council, and direction to all company employees reporting directly and indirectly to this position.

Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or Civil Engineering or similar, preferred. Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Must have a strong command of math skills for use in estimating, planning, and reporting.
2. Strong Lean Manufacturing knowledge and implementation skills
3. PCI Level III or willingness to achieve certification within a year of joining the team.
4. 5+ years of experience in an architectural precast concrete product – PCI AA certification preferred – manufacturing setting, preferably with long-line prestressed experience. Prior precast concrete carpenter/form builder experience and/or experience in steel fabrication/welding is a plus. 2+ years of supervisory experience in precast construction industry (preferably with an NPCA or PCI Certified plant).
5. Excellent knowledge of production, stripping, handling, and transportation equipment used for Architectural product.
6. Proficiency/experience in computer based concrete batching plant equipment used for producing architectural precast, is a plus.
7. Proficiency/experience in designing and/or working with architectural concrete mix is a plus.
8. Ability to read/interpret and communicate construction documents such as specifications, piece parts, shop drawings, details, schedules, etc.
9. Computer proficiency is required – must be proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

12. Ability to handle multiple assignments, prioritize activities and meet established deadlines in a rapidly changing environment

14. Excellent written and oral communication skills
15. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
1. Qualified Candidate will be working a portion of the day in an office environment. The remainder of the day will be spent in the plant, in the yard, or at the batch plant. Outside of the office the conditions can be hot, cold, dusty, muddy, and noisy. These conditions will exist throughout the year.
2. Must be able to occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
